According To This Man, Older Women Should Cover Up Because Their Bodies “Aren’t As Nice”
“The women running the event are old and they should be the ones covering up instead! They’re showing off their large, flabby arms and wearing short, tight dresses. Nobody wants to see that!”
When I was in high school I participated in a Cotillion. It was a formal event where the young ladies wore white floor-length ballroom gowns and the men wore tuxedos. It was a stuffy, expensive affair that my mother was particularly devoted to and invested in.
If I had the choice I wouldn’t have participated at all. I had better things to do than to spend every Sunday afternoon practicing the waltz with my date and father in heels. But my mother would’ve loved to do such a thing like this in her teenage years so she was living vicariously through her only daughter and I didn’t have any say in the matter. She micromanaged every aspect of this one-day event including my attire, hair, makeup, and date, whom she expected to be attractive as many pictures are taken during the Cotillion.
Besides learning about etiquette and other life skills, the ladies who were participating had to get their gowns approved. We had a checklist to adhere by, which included long satin gloves and white gowns that had to cover our feet and couldn’t expose too much of our arms. My…
