“We do not yell out, ‘Not all dogs!’ or ‘Not all rodents!’ when someone tells us their fears. Sounds silly, right? But we are so damn quick to say those cursed three words to all women:

Not. All. Men.”

I will never forget the evening when my Uber driver and I were having a conversation during the long ride home from the hair salon. We were discussing children, and of course me admitting my refusal to birth any turned into looks of shock and confusion. Naturally, the topic of relationships followed. He quickly asked if I was married and I said no, explaining that I never want to walk down any aisle in a long gown in this lifetime.

I witnessed the driver’s eyes widening as if they were going to pop out of his head, most likely because he’s never met a woman like me.

“How can you not want to be a wife? Okay, at the very least you want to be in a relationship. Right?”

“Nope,” I responded confidently. “I want nothing to do with men.”

He quietly turned into my neighborhood while stealing quick glances at me from his rear view mirror. I knew why. The man was simultaneously intrigued and disturbed with me.

“Are you traumatized?!” he asked curiously with concern in his voice.
