As A Rape Survivor, The Insanity Defense Is Trash
“The crime was committed. The trauma already set in the victim’s life and they are forced to deal with that pain for the rest of their days. So all criminals, regardless of mental status, should be held responsible.”
I decided to stay up all night and binge-watch one of my favorite shows: Law & Order, SVU. In a particular episode that got me emotionally riled up, the Assistant District Attorney, an intelligent yet dickmatized woman who put her personal feelings regarding a past relationship with her mentally ill boyfriend over her damn job, refused to allow the law to prevail.
And here I thought criminals should be put away!
She not only decided to play her own game so the perp couldn’t be tried due to the insanity defense, but she intentionally manipulated a detective so that his testimony would support her case. Never mind the fact that this detective experienced temporary blindness and head trauma due to the perp’s actions and he was led to believe that the ADA was going to do her damn job and put him away.
Before the perp went on a kidnapping spree in New York City he originally raped one of his many victims, an 11 year old child, in a state where the death penalty is considered. After taking his meds the kidnapper and rapist had so much remorse that he even begged the ADA to…
