Black woman, I know it’s not easy. But be joyful anyway. Shine anyway. Don’t let anyone break your spirit.

In my Facebook memories I came across the following post I published in 2020 that had me reflecting on how far I have come emotionally:

Black women are some of the biggest people pleasers I’ve ever witnessed, even though they refuse to admit it.

You must keep it real because you can’t keep it moving.

Everyone (especially men) puts up with your mouth because they still get what they want from you at your own expense and emotional well-being.

You have all the smoke for other women and your daughters, but the men in your life get a million passes and rewards for treating you like shit.

I see ya gyal. That stush attitude ain’t fooling nobody.

Many black women commented under that post, acknowledging that they were triggered because my words reflected their aggressive actions. I consoled them with compassion, because I am them. I belong to the same group of women I was describing. I can only speak on the things I am.

Tonight I looked in the mirror and I observed a wiser, more emotionally-stable and mature women staring back at me. It felt surreal, the way I admired…
