Connecting The Invasiveness Of Sexual Abuse & Pregnancy

“I cannot overlook the connection between these two physically traumatic events in womanhood, sexual abuse and pregnancy, as a symbiotic dynamic.”

It took me many years to parent myself when it came to the unlearning of religious and patriarchal norms that perfectly blended together to make me ashamed of saying no and establishing boundaries around my body.

Believe it or not, I was the first person to teach myself that abuse is never okay, and I didn’t fully comprehend the memo until I was an adult. Here are some other pertinent lessons I have learned along the way:

My body is meant to be loved, adored, and pleasured, not masturbated into like a sex toy who has no feelings.

Contrary to the Bible, I am not a help-mate to man, nor am I any partner’s incubator, maid, life coach, and ATM.

My life, beauty, self-worth, and peace of mind is more expansive than the ratings and judgments men give me based on physical appearance alone.

It is okay to prioritize freedom over romance and other societal expectations of who I should become because I am a woman. Hell, it is okay to focus on any and everything other than it!
