Current Mood: Anti-Natalism?
“You probably lie to yourself about how much of a hero you are, because us childfree people need someone to take care of us when we’re older, right? Are you already assigning your children roles in the healthcare field they didn’t agree to?
Well, you already assigned them life they didn’t ask for, so why stop there?”
“Why did you decide to have kids?” I asked the room. My coworkers were having a conversation about children and I singled out the parents out of curiosity. I always wondered why anyone would decide to permanently change their lives to accommodate children who didn’t ask to be born.
“I always wanted kids. I wanted to hold my own child,” the bookkeeper responded in a dreamy tone. Her eyes weren’t staring at me as she gave me this answer. She was in a trance-like state, possibly remembering the time when her twins were born and motherhood changed her life for the better.
“It just happened,” one of salesmen stated coldly. I was surprised he even said anything.
My friend’s answer, along with his thoughtful facial expression, confirmed that he gave a lot of thought to my question.
“Honestly, I really don’t know!” his right hand scratched his beard as he contemplated some more.
