Divine Living For Black Women: Rejecting Fear Mongering, False Narratives, Pipe Dreams, And One-Sided Loyalty In The Black Community
I always told myself that I will never share my personal experiences and thoughts when it comes to my life as a black woman. But I owe it to myself to be fully authentic, even if it results in losing support from people who try to mentally place me in a neat little box filled with the morals and values they’ve collected since childhood; the same ones they have yet to dissect as grown adults. Because let’s be real: as a melanated woman there is a lot of pressure and expectations placed on me from everyone. Furthermore, there is a lot of backlash and attempted silencing that occurs when one of us decides that we don’t have to follow through on the narratives placed on us, from the people who look like us at that!
But my audience deserves to get to know me on this level. And no, I am not talking about the common threads of racism, discrimination, colorism, white supremacy, poverty, inequality, police brutality, and any of the other issues that the black collective is speaking out about.
I am referring to the small group of us who are happy, living well, healthy, paid, and enjoying much fulfillment in our everyday lives. Why must we be silenced? And why does this community insist on forging our…
