As human beings who have been negatively affected by interacting with other humans, we are pushed to “get back out there” and “love like you’ve never been hurt” for the sake of having a social life and fulfilling this innate need to be loved, accepted, and touched by others. Because according to many prominent scientists, philosophers, and teachers, we are social creatures.

Now even my loner ass is not arguing with them; they are 100% correct. However, I do not think anyone needs to feel ashamed for not wanting to be surrounded by humans on a 24/7 basis through romance, work, or parenthood. I also believe this “We are social creatures” narrative without further explanation can be taken out of context to exclude and alienate those who function better without much human interaction.

This is similar to the ridicule of individuals who would rather raise a pet than a child, with close-minded critics saying mean shit like, “It’s just a dog! Get over it!” if something bad happens to one’s furry companion. But if the tables were turned, what if we were allowed to say, “It’s just a damn child! You can have another one!” if a little boy or girl died?
