“Instead of spending the hours between 9 AM and 5 PM doing mindless nonsense, my brain is now my money-maker. I am my own brand.”

I just finished exercising and I decided to check my Medium notifications. Out of the group of new followers I received (hey lovely people!) my eyes were drawn to one woman.

“Wow! She’s very beautiful!” I said to myself as I clicked on her profile. From her photo alone I could tell she was highly educated and did very well in the corporate world. I laughed to myself as I compared her profile photo to mine. Our lifestyles couldn’t be any different! She was wearing professional attire. My photo, however, is me making a silly face in a fuchsia bikini.

I began to think about my public Instagram profile, and how the freedom I currently give myself serves as a direct contrast to the life I lived just a few years ago. At my last place of employment I was reprimanded by HR for the harsh yet accurate things I said about my coworkers on my private Facebook page; things I’ve already mentioned in person.
