I spent many long years wrestling with the decision to either get a nose job or learn to love my face because of many factors like being too emotionally unwell to even make this decision from a healthy place. But the main factor that resulted in a long-ass game of tug-of-war in my brain stemmed from the morals given to me by other ladies who were conditioned to demonize cosmetic surgery.

Apparently we are supposed to be grateful for the physical features we were given no matter how much we hate them because “God doesn’t make mistakes.” Because it is our job to love ourselves just the way we are. Because we have been passed down our looks from our ancestors, and it is a disgrace to change our looks, or dishonor them. Even supermodel Bella Hadid admitted in the past that she regrets her nose job. She wished she kept the facial feature that belonged to her ancestors and grew into it instead.

While the anti-surgery brigade brings up some sound criticisms, I still choose to not allow fear and make-believe values to be the underlying emotions and thoughts behind any of my…
