Harsh Truth: Selfish People Love To Call Instead Of Text

“Because a friend hates texting you must stop what you’re doing to dedicate a small or large chunk of your day over to them.

How thoughtful, right?”

“I hate texting. I prefer talking on the phone. Texting seems so impersonal,” she told me one afternoon while we grabbed lunch.

I should’ve known those words were a trap set for me and my time. But I was very young and naive. We met while I was a freshman in college, and immediately hit it off as friends. What I wasn’t expecting was that her nonchalant remark was her excuse to chip away at my patience, one phone call at a time.

It started with 1–2 phone calls a day. Even with my busy school and work schedule this was something I could handle. But then she proceeded to up the ante and call my number whenever anything she considered to be remotely exciting occurred. There were times when we spoke upwards of ten times a day! Sometimes I would hang up on the phone with her and she would call me back immediately to excitedly tell me something else that happened in her day.

Naturally, I began to resent hearing from her. One day I told her that I only had the bandwidth to speak to her no more than two times a day. In a sad tone she said she understood.
