Hi Billye, I’m glad you brought up the costs of being single versus partnered. I’ve carefully thought through the major cons of choosing to be single long-term and I can live with them. In my opinion it seems like so many women only focus on the benefits of partnership without considering the drawbacks.
I must admit that I hyper-focus on the cons of a relationship for me but it’s helped me to be more balanced and level-headed. From childhood I’ve been taught to only look at the pros of relationships/marriage, like many other women.
I do agree that this obsession with who is with you in old age does not soften the blow that is death makes absolutely no sense. I wrote this article in response to the many men who kept telling me I was going to die alone when we technically all do.
