Maybe it’s because I am simply observing and not participating in the drama surrounding dating, but it is quite fascinating, and even hilarious, how men and women mirror each other’s behaviors to the point where both parties are complaining about the same faults they each possess without realizing it!

I am here to say that for the most part, emotional wounds surrounding relationships and heartbreak are self-inflicted, and can be pointed to stubbornness. The cruelty of being in love is that you are caught up in a dynamic vortex of intense emotions which keep you from seeing how you are breaking your own heart.

This past weekend I listened to an interview featuring a prominent male musician in the soca genre who was questioned about his recent hits, since his lyrics did a sharp 360 this year. His music usually has clean lyrics that promote partying, having fun, and celebrating our West Indian culture, but his latest songs told a story, expounding on a recent breakup that left him devastated to the point where he doesn’t care to “wife” any woman through monogamous partnership for the rest of his life.
