How I Was Pushed To Show Up For Myself When It Came To Monetizing My Passion

“As a writer, I give myself permission to be sovereign. For the first time in my life I am showing up for myself in all my authentic glory.

Through sharing my life in written form, I am able to reconnect with my true self, the woman I was scared to be all these years.”

I was awakened out of my sleep very early this morning, and between many yawns and attempts to close my eyes, I came to the sudden realization:

Being a writer is my way of showing up for myself. And there are two factors that heavily influenced me to pursue this path.

Those two factors are college and jobs; very huge aspects of my adulthood that sucked the life out of me and pushed me to eventually absorb myself in doing what satisfies me for the first time in my life. I was heavily influenced to pursue university and traditional employment from my parents and loved ones. So I showed up in these arenas with a dash of hopefulness, grit, and the willingness to work hard and succeed.

My parents are West Indian immigrants who came to this country as educated professionals. They both have masters degrees, and they raised my brother and I to value formal education. From their experiences, they concluded that education was your ticket to a better life.
