I agree. I feel “othered” by this community in general. I don’t like their music, entertainment, religion, and most of their norms that praise black men for simply having dark skin and sexual virility. I’ve always said that I love being black only due to my dark skin, but I don’t “feel black” at all. I feel like I’m on the outside looking in.
I have natural hair and my hairstylist is white. I wrote an article on black hair, and how it makes no sense that black women who hate their natural hair should do mine, especially if they’re going to keep suggesting relaxers and weaves.
Trust me, I can write several volumes about the black community. I hate that I have to distance myself from the majority of them to feel safe, loved, and accepted.
