I Don’t Know About You, But I Am Looking Forward To Dating In My Crone Years

My mother is visiting for Thanksgiving. And last night I tried to get a glimpse into the future and what it holds for me in terms of beauty by observing the woman who gave birth to me. So while she was sweeping the floor, lost in her own thoughts and completely unaware of her daughter’s curiosity, I decided to take a good look at her.

I observed how her face hasn’t changed much from my childhood days. Although she is a good three decades and some change ahead of me in age, her small face and sweet smile doesn’t give away her birth year so easily. We used to be the same height but now she is much shorter. But what really piqued my interest was the hair on her head.

Her long, silky hair was braided in four sections, with some grey and white strands decorating her crown. Her hair is a faded black and it seems as if her original hair color is fighting to remain relevant, like it’s having trouble adapting to the changes that are inevitable with time and age.

Physical aging has affected my father a little more obviously than my mother, as his face is more weathered. The scratchy beard he used to rub against my cheek as a child is now completely white. And I like it. I told him it was adorable the other day.
