“I’d Rather Have Jesus Than Silver & Gold.” Speak For Yourself!
“The irony of choosing any god over material wealth, and praying to this same god every single day for the prosperity you willingly chose to give up!”
“Don’t give me a mansion on top of the hill
Don’t give me the world with a shallow thrill
But just give me a Savior, my life He can hold
I’d rather have Jesus than silver and gold.”Silver & Gold, Kirk Franklin
I still remember being forced to sing this hymn as a child. I always used to think to myself, “But I would rather have the silver and the gold! The hell?!”
In church we would boldly sing these songs that promote poverty and meekness as a virtue, all while the same members of our congregation had so many damn problems, mostly involving a lack of money, they conveniently prayed to god for.
The irony of choosing any god over material wealth, and praying to this same god every single day for the prosperity you willingly chose to give up!
I love money, and I will always choose wealth over any god who insists that I sacrifice the opulent desires of my heart to prove that I love him.
