If Parents Are So Damn Selfless, Why Do They Need “Mini Me’s?”

Is “having your own child” really that serious? I thought parenting was a selfless act that focuses on children?

Isn’t that the main argument which supports why our pro-natalist world believes us wild, out-of-control childfree folk to be completely narcissistic and full of ourselves?

I know it may seem as if I rag on parents a lot.

I do. I’m not denying it.

But it’s not because I cannot stand them. My deliberate insistence on writing so much about parents from my childfree angle stems from the need to introduce some balance into the mix. For so long we have been conditioned to believe the most illogical shit about procreation as a desperate attempt to not only trauma bond with each other over a permanent lifestyle change that has never been questioned until recently, but to also appease many governmental and religious institutions that need us to never exercise our autonomy and think for ourselves, let alone live for ourselves!

This is why I attempt to bust open so many myths regarding the perceived martyrdom of parenting and angelic halos we believe they wear around their heads as if they are doing humanity a good deed.
