“Seriously, Hollywood: are us singles really that predictable? Do we have nothing better to do other than stalk our exes or fuck the pain that our exes caused away?”

One of my favorite bedtime rituals is to stream Hulu and fall asleep to the southern antics and day-to-day lives of the four men featured on King of the Hill. Hank Hill’s monotone voice and cut-and-dry, blunt reasoning for every known problem relaxes me, as he does remind me of my personal approach to life. Especially because I am actively working to get out of my watery, emotional body and into my logical one.

As I am strengthening my mind and allowing my emotions to take a back seat, what I cannot ignore is the intentional brainwashing in this series, as well as other forms of media, that portray single people as the only human receptors of loneliness, as if this emotion hasn’t visited each and every person on planet earth at some point in our lives; whether in the middle of the night as we are contemplating our family issues while staring up at our bedroom ceiling, or while we are surrounded by a group of friends who talk amongst each other and ignore our input and need to belong.
