I want to believe that this god y’all enjoy worshipping isn’t as sadistic as his followers would have us think. So I will conclude that the text instructing us to be fruitful and multiply does apply to the institution of family. However, it is a two-part command that ensures we are being responsible for the lives we bring into this world instead of kneeling every night and clasping our hands in prayer to ask some man in the heavens to send food to feed and save the lives of the many kids we birth out of horniness.

The first command is to be fruitful. The second and last command is to multiply. And too many of our world’s citizens are multiplying before they are fruitful!

By multiplying life through childbirth they are multiplying poverty, child abuse, starvation, disease, child trafficking, trauma, and the early death of children. But let them tell you that their decision to procreate while they can barely afford one meal a day for themselves is God’s will! This same nonsensical notion is backed up by the many religious zealots and anti-abortion groups who refuse to donate money from their wallets and food from their cabinets to poor families!
