If You Make A Promise To Me, I Expect You To Keep It

“One of the worst things anyone can do to me is get my hopes up and then let me down. I can’t think of too many things more disappointing than that.”

When I think about a person with outstanding character, what often comes to mind is their ability to make a promise and keep it.

I must admit, I do take it personally when someone tells me they’re going to do something and it never gets done. It smells like a lie to me. And I don’t like nor respect liars.

About a year ago, I was speaking to a male friend on the phone. He asked me what I wanted for my birthday last year. I told him how I wanted him to take me on a trip to the new city he moved to almost two years ago. He loved the idea, as this would mean he would get to see me and spend time with me for a few days. He was so excited, describing what we would do during my time there and how much fun we would have.

My birthday is coming up, and I still have yet to hear from my friend about when he plans to take me on the promised trip. I reminded him about it, and I’ve been hearing excuses, but no concrete plans. I haven’t received a plane ticket yet, and my patience is growing thin. Not only that, but he went on a trip to the west coast and bought me a gift. He told me I was going to receive it soon. I am still waiting.

One of the worst things anyone can do to me is get my hopes up and then let me down. I can’t think of too many things more disappointing than that.
