Ignoring Santa Claus And Jesus’s Birthday, Because Women Are The Holiday Magick
I am here to give credit where it is due, and it is always due to us.
Making holiday plans this month forced me to reflect on the amount of money and labor my mother and the other women in my life sacrificed to make sure everyone was well fed and enjoying themselves. It is a hefty sacrifice that not only receives a single thank you, but it is a sacrifice that has been praised and attributed to Santa Claus, yet another white man who gets credit for the work caring women and overworked employees have been silently putting in for millenniums.
When you really think about it, it’s absolutely wild how a man that has never stepped foot on our planet is shown gratitude for what the very real women in our lives are doing right under our noses. There is something very harrowing about women making shit happen behind the scenes and some random man we have never seen before receiving worldwide credit for it. I guess because fantasy makes money, as the reality of someone who loves you pouring their all into making Christmas special is less tantalizing.
