“We want what we want. And no amount of social justice will change that.”

Yesterday evening I posted a meme to my Instagram stories, featuring an obviously-altered Kim Kardashian stating that she, in all her photoshopped, short, adorable glory, only wants a man who is over 6’3 in height.

As a woman who only finds tall men attractive I agreed. I posted the photo to my stories as a joke, and received a few laugh reactions from the post. But my long-time male friend since high school didn’t find anything funny. He sent me a message with an emoji of a man face-palming himself, as if he was irritated.

I burst out laughing as I responded to his message. “You are tall, so you don’t have this problem!” I said.

“True. But I know people who do, and it’s not fair to them,” he shot back.

The first question I asked myself was this: why were the dating problems of his friends his problem? Then I had to ask myself a follow-up question:

Is dating supposed to be fair?
