Maturing Is Realizing That You Don’t Need To Shop Every Time You’re Sad

Shopping should not come at the expense of not only your wallet, but your healing and self-growth.

Ladies, as a former shopaholic I have a sermon for you on this fine Sunday:

Put the credit card away.

Seriously, put it away.

You don’t need to numb your pain with the addictive dopamine hit that comes with purchasing another handbag, another pair of shoes, scoring another 10/$38 panty deal or participating in the launch of yet another makeup palette.

Also, you don’t need to go to brunch every Sunday. You are not gathering with your girlfriends to have serious, heart-felt conversations and heal over mimosas and Eggs Benedict. Brunch is simply another distraction, dressed up in heels, hangovers from Saturday night, sad tales of non-orgasmic one night stands, and gossiping over who is sleeping with your ex-best friend’s gigolo of a husband.

Ladies, I am not saying that you cannot have fun. Life is meant to be enjoyed and celebrated through spending money.

But let’s face facts: for the most part our spending habits are nothing more than distractions, conveniently marketed to us as a fun, stress-free way to ease the pain inside our souls that will only grow bigger from every…
