Men & Their Possessive, Miserable Ass Wives

Years ago I moved into a predominantly white gated community. And as a black woman I made it my business to acclimate myself to the feel of my new residence. To this day I take many walks around my neighborhood, and I am always left amazed and pleasantly surprised at the reactions from my neighbors; more specifically, the reactions from nonblack men.

I used to go jogging pretty much every day. And there was a house I used to pass where a group of men used to always say hi to me and cheer me on. Their, “You go girl!” chants were sweet and quite humorous. They also used to whisper, “She’s hot!” amongst themselves while they sat in foldable chairs in the open garage and drank beer.

A few months later a woman moved in to the home and I noticed how silent and cold the house was afterwards. The men would stare at me but they wouldn’t say anything. It was a weird energy; it was like they wanted to stop and chat but couldn’t. Of course I still go walking and pass the house but to this day I am not sure why they weren’t so friendly anymore.

There was also the time when I took a short walk in the rain and I saw a man with two women walking and chatting amongst themselves. Once the man saw me he stopped dead in…
