My Short-lived Journey To Homeownership, And Why I’m Glad It Didn’t Work Out

It happens every once in a while.
I would lay awake in bed and think about that house. The one that got away.
The house was yellow with a large backyard. Once you opened the door you are greeted by an expansive blue-grey sunroom. A beautiful staircase leads to a lofted bedroom. If lofts aren’t your thing, a second bedroom is on the ground floor. It reminds me of a larger tiny house. I have a thing for quirky homes, and standing in that loft made me feel at peace. Although I saw myself building a life in this special home, I had to walk away.
While the house was in good condition, it was pretty far away from New York City, where I had to commute everyday to pay my future mortgage. There was a shared parking space with the neighbors to the right. It was located so close to the highway, and outside noise really bothers me. So I abandoned my dreams of sleeping on a platform bed in a loft bedroom, only for someone to purchase the home a few weeks later. It stings a little, but ultimately I regret nothing…
