My Type 4 Hair Keratin Treatment Experience

Every couple of years I yearn for a new look. Meaning, every couple of years I am utterly sick of my curly hair.

In general, I love my hair. My curls are unique and they don’t give me much hassle. However, there are times when I desperately want straight hair.

It’s been about three years since I got my hair straightened at the Dominican salon. And it’s been about five years since I received my last relaxer. Unlike some natural haired girls, I do not shy from the “creamy crack.” I have been relaxing my hair off and on for over a decade.

I did some research and came across what is called a keratin treatment. In this process, keratin is infused into the hair strands and sealed in with heat. The process takes about three days to complete and lasts up to four to five months. I read that this treatment is perfect for naturally curly women like myself who may want straight hair, but maybe not on a permanent basis as keratin does “leak” out of the hair with every wash. I liked what I read, so I went about looking for a salon in the metro area.

One salon’s website caught my eye. Their site compared the different straightening treatments they offered, and they also had photos of their stylists and their respective specialties. Plus they were awarded the best salon in my city for years. I was intrigued…
