Navigating Body Dysmorphia As A Newly Fit Woman

Yesterday I decided to treat myself to Five Guys. I’ve been craving a bacon cheeseburger since forever, and the night before I had a dream where I was enjoying the greasy goodness within those red and white walls.

Being that I am a former New York City resident who now resides in the south, I waltzed into the establishment dressed fashionably in my vintage Levi’s, a crisp white blouse, pearl earrings, and stylish flats. After I ordered and paid for my meal I waited for my cheeseburger and fries at my small round table while I sipped on ice cold berry lemonade. I smiled to myself as I witnessed how I was the only customer in the establishment who didn’t have on a t-shirt, loose fitting shorts, and flip flops. Both men and women wear the same casual attire where I live.

Dunking those hot, fresh fries dipped in ketchup between my lips felt like pure heaven. It seemed as though time halted for a moment as I savored the taste of those perfectly salted fried potatoes. I haven’t tasted one french fry in two months, and the feeling of eating a meal I didn’t have often was incredibly satiating. My burger, mixed in with the additions of crispy bacon, melted cheese, chopped onions, and spicy bites of fresh jalapeños almost made me walk up to a staff member and ask for a job application. I texted my brother that I wanted to live in Five Guys.
