On Dieting: Do You Lack Willpower, Or Is Your Body Responding Appropriately To Starvation?
If fruits and vegetables by themselves were so damn nourishing would we keep running back to the more delicious, calorie-dense foods that actually fill us up?
This afternoon I watched a reel where a content creator was jokingly modeling with an obviously photoshopped waist so small there was no way any of his organs could fit in his body. He accredited his teeny-tiny waist to having a smoothie for breakfast and a salad for lunch.
The caveat, which arrived at the end of the reel, was that he admitted that he was going to eat the entire refrigerator for dinner. No surprise there!
The caption that followed the reel was him proclaiming that he has zero willpower. Many viewers in the comment’s section agreed with his sentiments. Someone even admitted that they were so hungry from eating in this type of fashion that they were up at 4 AM binge-eating on cereal bars.
Again, no surprise here either! This is because smoothies aren’t meals. Salads aren’t meals. These temporary starvation diets that are not sustainable in the long term set people up to give in to their natural body’s cues to gorge on anything in sight in a desperate attempt to fuel the body by way of binge-eating. Unfortunately the dieter ends up feeling bad…
