On Paycheck Addition: Here’s Why Jobs Are Dangerous If You Are Seeking True Freedom

“Jobs serve as a comfortable yet frustrating refuge for people who don’t want to go all in.”

I wanted to be my own boss ever since I was 19 years old. I was in college when I got a part time sales position at a retail store, along with a shift schedule that fit in with my classes. While I loved the fast-paced environment of being surrounded by beautiful clothes and shoes all day I couldn’t help but think about how exhausting it would be to spend my time working for someone else, day in and day out, until retirement.

Once I moved to New York City after college I began working in corporate America. As a naive woman in her early 20s I really thought that having an office job would solve my previous woes and concerns. Nope! I graduated from being paid to be on my feet running clothing back and forth to sitting in a chair for over eight hours, and that shit still exhausted the fuck out of me.

It finally took a damn health and economic crisis known as COVID for me to begin taking my dreams of living the laptop lifestyle seriously.

As I am sitting in my favorite chair reflecting on my journey, a few thoughts came to mind.
