Platonic Love & Self-Love Are Just As Satiating As Romance: My Review Of “Pig”

“Different types of love do exist, and they are just as valid as your romance addiction!”

This morning I decided to stream the movie Pig featuring Nicolas Cage while I patiently wait for sleep to overtake me. I am an insomniac and it is almost noon. My eyes haven’t closed yet!

Perhaps it was written in the stars for me to finish watching this movie. I saw the first five minutes of it some months ago and I wasn’t moved to finish it. But today my spirit longed to see the famous actor on my MacBook screen as he returned back to the past he abandoned in Portland, Oregon in order to retrieve his stolen pet truffle pig. It may sound like a silly plot to some people, but I was able to point out a few life gems that may help you along your journey, just as much as it will help with mine.

Hollywood does a great job of bombarding us with heterosexual romantic conditioning and awkward intimate scenes that refuse to fit in with the overall story in almost every single movie they put out. However, I was pleasantly surprised at this film’s ability to focus on a man who steps back into the city that made him famous and reflect on his life, all while developing a friendship with his truffle buyer.
