“As a society, why are we so preoccupied with doing unhealthy things for the sake of looking healthy? Shouldn’t we actually be healthy instead?”

Mother’s Day weekend has passed, and I don’t know about you but I had a blast. My mother flew in for the weekend and I got to visit my favorite beach on Sunday. While it was an impromptu trip as we were expecting rain, we woke up on Sunday morning to beautiful clear skies and decided to take advantage of such a perfect day.

This beach day was not at all planned, and this is worth mentioning because I was not prepared to flaunt a bikini that was a touch too small on the beach that has not felt my body since I gained 13 pounds. Still, I made the best of the situation and I enjoyed myself.

I took photos of myself posing that day, and as I view those photos on my phone and reflect on yesterday’s festivities I cannot help but smile at the expression of pure joy on my face. There’s something about the salty ocean waves and hot sand sifting between my toes that makes my heart sing. And when my eyes are drawn towards my slightly larger, pudgier body I feel contentment within. That weight took a lot of food, weight lifting, and sleep to attain, and unlike the average woman I am proud of myself that the scale is moving up! And yes, I plan on gaining even more!
