Years ago I lived with a roommate in a large apartment in New York City. One day we were lounging around and chatting in my room when she mentioned that many women were jealous of her, and they displayed this emotion in a passive aggressive way.

When I asked her to further explain, she told me that they would walk extremely close to her, even when the sidewalk had lots of room for these ladies to create an adequate amount of distance between them.

My mouth dropped as soon as she said this. “Oh my god, that same shit happens to me too! I thought I was the only one! I really thought I was paranoid when I noticed this!” I said.

She shook her head. “Nope, you’re not crazy. There’s something about you that women are drawn to, yet they hate you for it.”

Men and women alike have very subtle ways of expressing the way they feel towards others, especially those they deem superior to them. And one of the strangest behaviors that has followed me for most of my life stems from the way people react whenever I am nice, helpful, or appreciative towards them.
