“Rich Auntie”: A Savvy Role Meant To Derive Even More Servitude Out Of Single, Childfree Women
“Why slap a cute auntie title on the blind servitude expected of single women without kids and tell us that we are going to have a grand old time raising kids we didn’t birth?”
I am going to come right out and say it: I absolutely hate this “auntie” trope that has been making its rounds on social media for the past few years. Just a few moments ago I watched a reel on Instagram where an auntie casually strolled through her brother’s house with designer shopping bags and threw money at him, grabbed his kids to take photos with them, only to leave his home after showering the kiddos with money.
This rich, selfless woman with absolutely no responsibilities is the wet dream of moms and dads alike, but I hope this dream never comes true! If it does manifest, I will implore these aunties to have stipulations on their reckless compassion! Because the auntie role is one where single women are supposed to function as surrogate parents out of the kindness of their hearts. Sure, it looks fun and rewarding. But in this role you are nothing more than a help mate to people you are not married to!
