“Growing up in poverty can be very traumatizing for many adults, and it is best we not assume that because they are young, healthy, successful, and possess the sex organs to reproduce that they necessarily want to.”

I came across a thread where someone asked, “Why do you not want children?”

And one of the main reasons listed touched me in a way that inspired me to write this article. One person was brave enough to admit that they are childfree because they grew up poor.

“I think there’s a good chunk of people who simply grew up so poor that they can’t even imagine not using that money on themselves as adults.

I already didn’t have a proper childhood, so I’m sure as hell not giving up my adulthood ‘unconditionally’ for a new life. No chance in hell.

I’m going to enjoy this life to my limits, because I’m owed this much for not having chosen to be born.”

Now discussing my childfree lifestyle and my opinions regarding our pro-natalist society has been the one of the cornerstones of my work as a writer. I speak about the benefits and perils of what it means to exist as a woman who intentionally does not want to get married or start a family, which of course has some people scratching their heads.
