Self-care is taking back the care you have for others who refuse to do better for themselves and using that care to exalt yourself and live exceptionally.

I have learned that whatever people believe about themselves is true; for them, at least. And for me to argue with anyone is for me to care about them more than they care about themselves. My friends, this is the most pointless thing you can ever do. In fact, I believe many of our problems with others are a waste of time, as they stem from us caring too much.

This is why I am going against the grain to proclaim that self-care is in fact selfish. Self-care is taking back the care you have for others who refuse to do better for themselves and using that care to exalt yourself and live exceptionally. In other words, subtract from bitter, complaining, excuse-making adults and add to you!

I read an article written by a beautiful black woman who is passionate about changing the health outcomes of black women through encouraging us to eat healthy and exercise. As I continued to read her words I was already aware of the trap she walked into. It is a trap I fell into many years ago, and many ladies continue to fall into it by accident.
