As A Society Do We Think Women Are Dumb?
As an adult woman do I come off as someone who requires the unsolicited advice of others to make decisions for me as if I haven’t been successfully making choices and planning my life for literal decades?
I can probably blame my childfree status on why I view our society through a more jarring lens than the average woman. This is because I have received the (dis)pleasure of being surrounded by people who insist on playing in my face when it comes to my intelligence and feminine sovereignty.
Since my childhood years I have received social confirmation that I haven’t got the slightest clue as to what I want to do with my body, the same body that I have singlehandedly owned since birth. As such, everyone and their mama has attempted to tell me what I should do with it after I have made it plain and clear as day that I am not an idiot just because I own a womb.
Case in point: I could probably afford my own private island as a refuge from the ridiculousness of folks if I had a dollar for every time I painfully endured this conversation:
Nosy-ass stranger: “So do you have kids?”
Me: “No.”
Nosy-ass stranger: “Oh okay. Well, you’re young. You have time.”
Me: “I don’t want kids.”
