Sexism & Food: Why I’m No Longer Attracted To “Soy Boys”
“Does food make us more or less attractive on a cellular level?”
Ladies and gentlemen, I spent the last 10 minutes watching a man enjoy a large steak. Yes, who would’ve thought this misandrist would do such a thing?!
I wasn’t sure if I was lustfully observing the steak or the man himself. But me escaping reality and using up ten minutes of my precious time in such a frivolous way caused me to ask myself the following question:
Does food make us more or less attractive on a cellular level?
As a society we have deemed meat as a real man’s food, while a man who enjoys a plant-based diet is labeled a “soy boy,” a derogatory term used to describe a vegan or vegetarian who is usually characterized as a man who isn’t traditionally masculine. In terms of appearance, think of a body that lacks muscle mass, even a skinny-fat physique, and someone who enjoys arguing and griping over every little thing.
You know, the same men I enjoy roasting in my articles.
Sure, we can identify this stereotype as sexist towards men. But when we peel back the layers of sexism can we find a little bit of truth to explain why some aspects of sexism between men and women are not entirely based on illogical assumptions that drive our standards of beauty…
