The harsh truth is that yes ladies, men get scared as well. Fear is not an emotion only children and women experience!

Years ago, on a relaxing Sunday in the summer time, my boyfriend and I attended a cultural event in Brooklyn. There was lots of food on display and shopping opportunities which created for a successful turnout: the streets were jam-packed. After my boyfriend bought me a beautiful Kente cloth dress we decided to maneuver our way through the crowds to check out the food vendors on the other side of the street.

But while we made our way across the street we were suddenly bum-rushed by a huge crowd of people that appeared to be running from some perceived danger. My man tried to hold my hand to grab me but the heavy weight of multiple people rushing into us forced us apart temporarily. We both ended up separated and falling onto the concrete with piles of bodies on top of us both.

When I got up I had small bruises on my legs. My boyfriend ran towards me in a state of panic. “Are you okay?!” he asked frantically. I was a little disoriented by what transpired just a few minutes ago, so I didn’t have much to say.

“I wanna go home,” was all I could muster up the courage to voice.
