I will never forget the time when my friend spent a few days by me. One evening we were enjoying a meal I prepared when she blurted out how she really felt about my eating habits that were drastically different than hers.

“You don’t eat enough.” She fixed her brown eyes on me, hoping I wouldn’t be too upset. But it was too late. My annoyance with her constant interference in my personal life was clearly displayed in my facial expression.

After a few seconds of silence I dropped my fork and decided to speak.

“I eat enough.”

“No you don’t,” she pressed further. “I eat three meals and three snacks.”

“That’s a lot of food for me! I eat about two meals a day,” I responded in an irritated tone.

“See? That’s not enough!”

“It is.”

This type of nit-picking drives me up a damn wall. Because if the roles were reversed she would’ve gotten her feelings hurt. As a woman whose body is larger than mine, what if I told her she ate too much? That would be completely out of line, right? Plus I would be called out for “food shaming” because I am petite. Because I exist in a smaller frame she would most…
