I woke up this Monday morning and checked Facebook. I saw a post shared by two friends about the news that Rihanna is pregnant.

At that point I knew I needed to take a 24-hour sabbatical from social media.

For starters, I am 100% certain my social media feeds will be inundated with this news, and I don’t understand nor care what the hype is about. I have nothing against the beautiful West Indian business mogul and entertainer, but as a whole I am not moved by the latest celebrity gossip and announcements. I actually try my best to be out of the loop, because I am not emotionally invested in the lives of wealthy individuals who do not pay me to care about them.

Over the years I have learned to embrace my selfishness, the trait many people have shamed me over because they needed my compassion, money, attention, support, and labor.
