Before we begin, what exactly is a woman or man of conviction? It is someone who is sure of themselves. They know what they want, and there is no wavering or compromising when it comes to receiving it, either from their own hard work and efforts or from others. They are not tip-toeing around their true desires. They don’t have one foot in the water and one foot on land. They are all-in.

Growing up, my refusal to compromise in certain areas of my life worried my mother. But as an adult I must say that this loyalty I had towards what I wanted slowly became one of my favorite attributes. Then again, I had no other choice but to love this part of myself: whenever I was lenient and made accommodations for temporary relationships and friendships, temporary jobs that were here today and gone tomorrow, or temporary emotions I always ended up the loser. And after a while I became so sick and tired of losing.

I wanted to win on my own terms. I finally wanted to be proud of myself and quit relying on the fleeting opinions of others, along with their fake reassurance that me listening to them was me doing the right thing.
