He Thought I Was Attractive…Because He Thought I Was Pregnant
“So…are you pregnant?” the driver asked. He stood in front of me while he waited for my answer. His eyes looked hopeful, as if he was anticipating for me to say yes.
It was a promising summer Saturday in New York City.
I was over my friend’s house gathering ingredients to prepare a delicious lunch of baked salmon, along with healthy sides of eggplant, kale, and rice. After lunch we were planning to spend the day at the beach later that afternoon.
“Does the salmon smell funny?” Shawna asked as she stood beside me while I cleaned the fish.
“No. You smell something?”
“The fish smells…off. It smells very fishy. But if you don’t smell anything then I guess it is okay,” she said as her shoulders shrugged. She proceeded to pick up a broom to sweep the living room.
I gave the fish a final smell test. I really couldn’t smell anything! So I proceeded as planned.
After we ate we got ready to spend the remainder of the beautiful, sunny day at Jones Beach in Long Island. Both of us were excited to finally get some sand between our toes. We took the short walk to the express bus stop that stopped by the beach.
