The Cult Of Selling Hope In Exchange For Feminine Sovereignty: My Review Of “The Other Lamb”
My feminine intuition persuaded me to dedicate a few hours of my lazy Saturday to stream this movie on Hulu. Directed by Małgorzata Szumowska, this film utilizes beautiful and captivating visuals to tell the story of an all-female cult led by a man called Shepherd. I must say that The Other Lamb has earned a spot on my favorite movies list, for reasons that completely oppose the other reviews of this film.
The Other Lamb is criticized as not giving enough back story and information throughout the duration to really piece together the film. This is truly the work of the feminine, which is why I appreciate this motion picture in the first place. As consumers we are so used to shallow Hollywood programming that gives away the answers to our pressing questions so willingly. There is nothing to ponder or think about; such is the work of most male directors. This movie, however, is very layered and leaves much to the imagination. It is open to interpretation that is not necessarily right or wrong, because labels don’t matter as much as we believe it does. I can bet that even weeks and months later I will find myself discovering new aspects of the film that I didn’t notice shortly after the credits started rolling.
