The “Natural” Yet Insufferable Symbiotic Relationship Between Men & Women

As a child I used to play dress up in my parent’s bedroom. Whenever I wasn’t reading, playing outside, watching TV, or doing homework I would place my tiny feet in my mother’s extensive collection of stilettos and teach myself how to strut in 4 inch heels.

Mom wasn’t just a frequent shopper at Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Macy’s, and Bloomingdales. She was an avid reader like me. One day I combed through her books, trying to satisfy my own addiction to thumb through pages of text for the remainder of the evening. The many John Grisham volumes and religious texts didn’t interest me. Instead, through my childlike curiosity I discovered another author named John that day. I picked up the book titled Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus by John Gray and stared at it as confusion overtook my young mind.

Like other little girls, I was indoctrinated into a belief system which told me love was the most important goal any of us can aspire to. Beautiful visuals and messages of hope through the Hallmark movies I used to watch on Sundays with my mother in bed always had the same happily ever after ending.

I thought men and women wanted the same thing? I asked myself that afternoon.
