The Sad Reasons Why We Love Humble Women
“Humble women aren’t intimidating. They are comfortable to be around. We are not reminded of our insecurities and shortcomings when we run into them.”
“You think you’re better than everyone else.”
This was a familiar taunt that I was confronted with growing up. As a child I couldn’t quite understand what was meant by this. So I asked for clarification.
“Well…we just think you’re stuck up. You think you’re better than us.”
While I was trying to make friends my peers tried to reject me before I could reject them. For some reason they came to the conclusion that I didn’t think they were good enough to be in my presence as I was usually by myself, minding my business..and suffering from social anxiety.
I never said I was better than anyone, as I wasn’t taught to be haughty. So their remarks left me confused. What I failed to realize was that these girls thought I was better than them, and they projected their insecurities onto me by creating a narrative in their minds about me that didn’t exist.
Over the years some of my friends admitted they didn’t feel comfortable being themselves around me in fear that I would judge them. I was always taken back by their confessions, as I thought myself to be chill and open-minded. But the cold, stuck-up, cocky…
