Close your goddamn purse when you are out in public. Zip up your backpack every time after it is opened. Watch your open tote bags closely. Be mindful of your belongings and keep them close to your body!

I used to live in New York City, and I cannot tell you how many times I have witnessed women hanging out with friends or riding the trains and their bags were wide open and loosely hanging off of them. It made me shudder every single time in disbelief. New York is not for the faint of heart, and people’s belongings are lost and stolen every single day.

I can admit that I am a bit paranoid and I can stand to let up a bit. But my suspicious nature caused me to never experience any petty theft crimes in all my years of living in such a large city.
