I was busy updating my website when I decided to take a quick social media break. The first things I saw on my news feed was a shared post from a popular black female author who has spent years cultivating a community and safe space for black women through her articulate and passionate writings. This author was upset because a fellow black woman flat out stole one of her writings, word for word, and retyped it on her page without giving a lick of credit.

As a writer myself, I had to take several deep breaths, as I could feel my rage rising within me! There is something about a hard-working woman being played and taken for a fool that triggers me.

Even after this thief received an influx of comments from the loyal fans of the original author’s work, begging her to either cite the author or take the post down she still has it up, flat out refusing to comply with such a basic level of decency.

In other words, she would rather break the law and pretend as if someone else’s work is her own, rather than give credit where it is due. Amazing, isn’t it?
