Trust The “Silent Partners” In Your Life & Release The Control Freak Within

If you are familiar with bodybuilding or any sport in general, you would know that not too many athletes enjoy taking rest days, or those pesky 24–72 hours of our week when we must disengage from intense exercise to repair and recover torn muscles. I can admit that I am one of those people. Because I am dividing the majority of my time between my writing and my new publication I have been forced to be smarter with the time I allocate to feed my exercise addiction.

But this afternoon I was taught a valuable lesson on why we should let up on our “control freak” identity and trust that our efforts are enough.

I decided to do a quick shoulders workout by heading to my basement for a few sets of weighted overhead presses. I would’ve done a full body workout but my legs were much too sore from my brutal workout that lasted almost four hours the night before.

Now I knew I should’ve stopped exercising after completing 100 jump rope skips and taking a relaxing stroll around my neighborhood, but my ridiculous rationale was that if I was resting my body I wasn’t going to see any results.

I told myself that I was only going to complete 30 reps and then prepare a delicious protein-packed dinner. But I couldn’t even make it to 11 reps without an…
