Unpopular Opinion: Happiness Is A Stupid Ass Goal To Aspire To

I’ve noticed that not too many people are asking themselves why are they so obsessed with being happy, although having 24/7 access to this single emotion is an impossible goal that is responsible for almost every facet of our lives.

We get married and have children because we believe this is the key to it.

We remain in jobs we hate, spending a third of our 24 hours working with people we cannot stand, because that salary affords us products and material trinkets that promise it.

We purchase homes we cannot afford without quitting those jobs we despise, as the money pits we fuck, eat, shit, and lay our heads in every night are sold to us as happiness.

I’m going to tell you a secret:

I’m not suicidal; let me start there. But life is fucking hard. And as a survivor of multiple suicide attempts I will tell you that depression is not always the single cause of suicide ideation. Your ability to see life for what is it is not a bad thing, despite what any therapist wants you to adapt as truth. Your brain is protecting you from being scammed.
